I used to write a lot since the time I remember anything about myself. I never liked copied things so I always tried to make original content- original poems, original ideas! Of course those ideas are shaped by our experiences of the real world or the books that we read or the people that surround us. But as long as you are not copying someone’s ideas blindly, without thinking and analysing it, you do have a touch of originality in it. But every original idea is certainly inspired by many other ones!
Sometimes I wonder is it special that I write? Is it really something unique about me? Well, maybe not. A lot of people write – to express. Many people are master of a great art of expressing themselves vocally. I don’t consider myself an expert in that talent. So I write. It’s easier to me. And it also gives me the opportunity to weigh my words before it gets delivered to its final destination.
So what do I write? Well, anything that I feel like writing in the moment – quotes, journal, poems or anything for that matter. But all I know about myself is that writing is a very very important part of me.
I remember when I was in school, a lot of my father’s friends used to admire my thoughts expressed in my poems. They used to tell me how they too used to write at some point of time in their life. I remember they said “I too used to write, but not anymore…” And every time I would ask ” why did you stop writing then? ” And from each one of them I always got one same answer – ” now I don’t get time…there’s so much work to do when you grow up that you just don’t get time to write.” And every time I said ” you don’t complain you don’t get time to eat, you take out time to eat! So you can take out time to write too.. maybe not an hour but definitely ten minutes. “
They would smile at me and say “we take out time to eat because we would die if we stop eating!” I replied ” Exactly! …and your expressions, your desires, your dreams would die if you don’t write or indulge in any hobby of your choice!” They would just smile at me thinking “you’ll know, little kid, what we mean, when you grow up.” I would just shrug my shoulders and ask myself – “will I too stop writing when I grow up?” And something from within me replied every time- “Writers Always Write!!”
I don’t know if I’ve grown up yet, but I’m 35 now and I still write everyday!
