The new year plans and resolutions don’t work very well and we all know that. But still, the enthusiasm of the willingness to change our life and habits with the new year is so refreshing and real! Last year I planned to read a book every month. I even bought 12 books in the starting of the year: one for each month. Marked them month wise. Of course I failed to read them all. But does that mean it was worthless to buy those books and make those plans? I would say, not at all! By the end of the year, I had pushed myself enough so I inculcated a habit of reading again! Not pushing a book to the side and hopping on to a new one only to read a few pages and then hop on to another one.
What happens is, when we plan something, implementing it sort of becomes very important to our brain. It keeps bringing you back to do that thing and take full accountability for it. So even if you are not perfect, you’re still better than what you were before you made that plan. Take it easy. You do not have to do everything right away. But plan! Start slow. Take your time. Fail if that’s what is happening! So what? You’ll pick up! You’ll be fine! Just start. Start where you are. You will build yourself a little bit everyday. At least you won’t be moving backwards. And the consistency, it catches you up and pushes you ahead once you have shown enough of it!
